There is a softness to the ocean that feels especially cinematic when captured on film. These photos were taken on the Leica M5 paired with the Light Lens Lab 50mm f/2 "rigid" lens, using Kodak Vision3 250D. The combination creates warm colors, natural grain, and a nostalgic glow that digital does not fully replicate.
Film photography slows everything down. Each frame is intentional rather than disposable. The water was calm, the clouds moved in and out throughout the day, and the overall rhythm felt slow and reflective.
Sun, Sand, and Play
Farther down the shoreline, families played in the surf. Kids throwing the football, and late afternoon light became gentle and warm. The Light Lens Lab rigid lens has a softness across focus transitions that gives the image a nostalgic look, almost like a memory the moment it is captured.
Film favors atmosphere over perfect clarity. The imperfections add charm.

Architecture and Geometry
I found this quiet corner in town, with a red wall, black shutters, and a cactus. The composition felt graphic.
The film’s grain tied the overall composition together.

Laguna’s Tide Pools
The tide pools in Laguna Beach felt alive. Green moss covered volcanic rocks, and shallow water collected in natural basins. The Light Lens Lab rigid lens captured the texture beautifully without feeling overly sharp or digital. The moss feels tactile and sculptural.

Water and Horizon
There is something meditative about a single horizon line. Waves move in and out, the sky feels wide, and the foreground becomes a place to watch the tide pull back.
These quiet frames are often my favorite. Simple, honest, and peaceful.

Afternoon at the Cove
The cove was calm, filled with swimmers enjoying shallow water beneath tall palms. As the light changed, the scene warmed and softened. Film captures summer light in a way that feels dreamy.
Nothing here is staged. Shooting film encourages patience and observation. You are not constantly reshooting or checking the screen. You wait for the moment to happen on its own.

----------
Laguna Beach is naturally cinematic if you slow down and pay attention. Film photography turns an ordinary beach walk into a contemplative experience. It is not about clinical perfection. It is about learning to see with intention.
Shooting on the Leica M5 with Kodak Vision3 250D reinforces something simple and true: film is not only a technical medium. It is a way of looking at the world.
